HISTORY OF THE INSTITUTE OF SUSTAINABLE AGROTECHNOLOGY, UniMAP

University Malaysia Perlis (UniMAP) has established Agrotechnology Development Unit on March 1, 2007. The establishment of the Unit is the result of a noble idea of the Honorable Brigadier General Dato' Professor Dr. Kamaruddin Hussin, Vice Chancellor of UniMAP. He has the foresight to see the field of agrotechnology as a need to catalyze the development of agriculture through utilizing sustainable technologies.

The establishment of Agrotechnology Research Station at University Malaysia Perlis is one of the initiatives of the University’s Strategic Plans to service the local agriculture industry. The Research and Development (R&D) program aims for the future and broadens the perspective of farming by generating portfolio of technologies for Knowledge-agriculture (K-agriculture). It will leverage its engineering strength to spur new opportunities.

Previously, Agrotechnology Development Unit was fully operational at the Agrotechnology Research Station, Sg. Chuchuh Campus, 02100 Padang Besar, Perlis. The opening of the Station had been graciously officiated by DYTM Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin Jamalullail Ibni Almarhum Syed Putra Jamalullail, the King of Perlis on May 17, 2009.

Starting from January 1, 2013, it is now known as Institute of Sustainable Agrotechnology and the opening had been officiated by the Chief Secretary to the Government of Malaysia, the honourable Dato' Sri Dr. Ali bin Hamsa on 8th of January 2013.

Sg. Chuchuh is the second campus of University Malaysia Perlis after Pauh Putra Nature Campus and is now being developed in stages as the development and needs arise.
