The Institute of Sustainable Agrotechnology (INSAT) was established in 2009 and has since focused on strengthening agricultural-based academic, research, innovation, and commercialization in line with UniMAP's 2025 plan. Additionally, it contributes to the community through activities such as agri-TVET courses in collaboration with government agencies to provide better skills to farmers in agricultural technology. In 2023, INSAT oversees the development of UniMAP AgroNexus in Sg. Chuchuh to provide an agricultural project framework that involves industry, agencies, communities, and alumni in agro-food production and freshwater fish farming projects. UniMAP AgroNexus also offers practical workplaces related to agriculture, agricultural and environmental laboratory services, technology transfer, practical training, and Agri-TVET training programs for graduates and communities.
INSAT has focused on several research projects to realize technology-based smart agriculture. Some of these activities involve collaborations between researchers and agriculture-based companies with the aim of creating competitiveness and maintaining sustainability in agriculture. INSAT's research areas include open farm production systems, controlled environment systems, urban agriculture, organic pesticides, organic fertilizers, aquaculture, and electronics and robotics systems (integrations of sensors, microcontrollers, and IoT-based systems). INSAT has a strong collaboration with government agencies and industry partners to provide services to the community and consultancy activities involving agricultural projects, especially those utilizing smart technology for Agriculture 4.0.
